Dehydration of 2,3-butanediol to methyl ethyl ketone in sub- and supercritical water

چکیده

Polyols can be synthesized from carbohydrates in bioor chemo-catalytic way. The conversion of polyols with two hydroxyl groups in 1,4-positions, for example 1,4-butanediol, results in furan derivatives. In contrast, during the dehydration of diols with two vicinal hydroxyl groups, for example, 1,2-propaneand 1,2-butanediol, aldehydes or ketones are formed [1] . This will be presented exemplarily with the dehydration of 2,3-butanediol into methyl ethyl ketone. 2,3-butandiol is fermentative available from carbohydrates such as hexoses and pentoses or from lignocellulosic wastes [2] . The reaction in water allows to directly convert the fermentative available 2,3-butanediol solution into methyl ethyl ketone without water separation.
